FAQs
-
It is recommended to have a skin check at least once a year, especially if you have a history of sun exposure or risk factors for skin cancer. More frequent checks may be necessary for those with a higher risk.
-
During a skin check, our local docs examine your skin for any suspicious moles or lesions. They may use a dermatoscope, a tool that magnifies the skin, to get a closer look at any concerning areas.
-
Treatment for skin cancer depends on the type, size, and location of the cancer.
-
While it may not be possible to prevent skin cancer entirely, you can reduce your risk by practicing sun safety measures and prioritise skin health. Chat to our docs today for more information.
-
High-risk patients include: light coloured skin, history of melanomas or skin cancers, family history of skin cancer, older aged groups, high number of moles, previous sun damage, previous use of tanning beds, or high sun exposure in occupations such as; tree loppers, roofers, landscapers, tradesmen, etc.
-
A high prevalence of moles can indicate a genetic predisposition and increased childhood sun exposure, contributing to their formation. Moles, especially in susceptible individuals, often gather in areas previously exposed to sunlight and damage, potentially elevating the risk of melanoma and non-melanoma skin cancers. Regular skin checks by a skilled skin cancer doc are advisable for individuals with numerous moles, especially those displaying irregular or asymmetric features, as they may face an elevated risk of melanoma, particularly as they age, although melanoma can occur at any age.
